The argument was basically that dogs are much larger and noisier than a few hens. We allow dogs, so chickens are in! Of course with limits.. No roosters, limits in number based on yard size, etc. and you must care for them properly. No fees or license required! And that's in a Western city of 95,000.jeffomatichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16417003241279299306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2680664903011977089.post-52271169050277919872009-09-25T10:56:58.693-07:002009-09-25T10:56:58.693-07:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.f-thathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14303996261589510833noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2680664903011977089.post-39994177719461358522009-08-28T13:03:35.204-07:002009-08-28T13:03:35.204-07:00You might be interested to read some of the commen...You might be interested to read some of the comments in the fight to keep chickens in Plano, Texas, here and here. The main reasoning seems to be outright snobbery-- people think that keeping chickens is something that poor, dirty people do. Some of the comments are just beyond ridiculous, and need to be seen to be believed.Gretchenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16281656288783656398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2680664903011977089.post-12566305874288951002009-08-13T10:00:57.550-07:002009-08-13T10:00:57.550-07:00We actually have ducks, not chickens, but all of o...We actually have ducks, not chickens, but all of our neighbors have been very positive about them. We have actually had a couple of older folks come by and thank us for bringing them into the neighborhood, because the sound of their occasional quacking (usually at dinnertime!) reminds them of their childhood on the farm.

I think you are right in saying that the contingent against urban poultry is small, but vocal.Kimbrahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09439820966586228461noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2680664903011977089.post-71672028807491116932009-08-12T19:25:11.479-07:002009-08-12T19:25:11.479-07:00It seems everyone I talk to is getting into backya...It seems everyone I talk to is getting into backyard chickens, or wishing they could.
